Claire McFarlane setting out to change the world – ProjectBRA

With 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children kicking off on Wednesday (25 November 2015) it is only fitting to shift the spotlight on those who are championing the cause and setting out to change the world.

We recently met a phenomenal woman by the name of Claire McFarlane – a South African born Australian. Through her own personal story, she has become an advocate for survivors of rape, and on 18 July 2016, she will begin running 16 kilometres of beach in every coastal country of the world (starting in Cape Town): this involves 86% of the world, 186 plus beaches (approximately 3000 km’s) barefoot where possible, in under three years. It’s a global campaign of peaceful action to: give women who have been raped a voice; remove the taboo around rape; raise funds for healing programs; and ultimately open a dialogue so that lasting change can be made. It is called www.ProjectBRA.org (Beach Run for Awareness, and a “bra” being something that supports women).

The Saturday Star chatted to Claire this past week about her journey. If you missed the article, be sure to check out http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/gauteng/rape-survivor-to-show-her-sand-1.1948874#.VlKwm2yhfVQ

Together with CN&CO, urban espresso is proud to be a part of Claire’s adventure (by assisting with PR) and will be supporting her all the way.

Kudos to you, Claire!
